027 | MLK - Part 1: The Appropriated King (and an intro to MLK's Theology)

Chase Tibbs

It's that time of year folks, when the words, life, and work of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. are used for everything from selling trucks, to shaming poor people for being irresponsible, to emboldening individuals to make a post about justice on social media. Might there be more to the life, theology, and work of King? In this first episode of a two part series, student of the life and faith of King, David Justice, and I will reflect on a variety of ways King is appropriated for the purposes of reproducing the status quo. Then we will take a look at his understanding of God, the ins and outs of the Beloved Community, and the ways in which he thought we ought to pursue this community of love!
